Sania clinched 35th position in latest WTA rankings
[Tue Jul 24, 2007]According to the latest WTA rankings released on Monday, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza is ranked 35th in the world. Her semifinal appearance in last week's Cincinnati Open gained her three rungs to reach the 35th position. Sania's highest ranking till date is no. 31, which she gained in October 2005. And now she is just four places down to catch her highest ranking again.
On the other hand, Sania's doubles ranking is also raised by two places to 36th position. Last week Sania won the doubles title at Cincinnati along with American partner Bethanie Mettack.
After the successful Cincinnati Open, Sania will next play in USD 600,000 Tier II WTA event at Stanford, USA.
Meanwhile, the other Indians present in the race, Sunitha Rao slipped 18 places to 256th position. Shikha Uberoi slipped five places to 334th position, while veteran Rushmi Chakravarthi stick with her 388th position.
