Sania reached singles as well as doubles final of Stanford
[Sun Jul 29, 2007]

After beating the three top seeded players, Sania cruised to the finals of $600,000 Bank of West Classic in Stanford. To reach the finals Sania beat the eighth-seeded Sybille Bammer of Australia in her semifinal round. Sania defeated Bammer by 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

The second set was tough for Sania but she secured the match by winning the third set. After the match Sania said, "I started to feel tired late in the second set and then I regrouped. It was all mental. I told myself to hang in there and I did."

Sania said, "It's a great start to the hardcourt season. I've had great wins here and I'm starting to hit the ball better."

Before beating 8th seeded Bammer, Sania defeated 6th seeded Tatiana Golovin of France in the second round and 4th seeded Patty Schnyder of Swis in the quarter-finals. A final at Stanford is Sania's first final since Forest Hills in August 2005. It will be her first Tier II final appearance. Before this Sania had won the Hyderabad title in 2005 which was a Tier IV event. Sania who is currently ranked 35th is expected to be ranked in top 30 after beating the three top players.

For the finals Sania will take on to top-seeded Anna Chakvetadze of Russia.

On the other hand Sania also reached the doubles finals of Stanford. Sania along with Israel partner Shahar Peer defeated Su-Wei Hsieh of China and Alla Kudryatseva of Russia 6-3, 6- 4 in their semifinal match. The Indo-Israel pair will next take on to Anna Chakvetadze of Russia and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus for the finals.
