Sania loses singles but wins doubles at Stanford

Sania Mirza loses her singles final against the top seeded Russian Anna Chakvetadze at the $600,000 West Bank Classic WTA event on Sunday. Chakvetadze defeated Sania by 6-3, 6-2. Previously also Sania was defeated by the Russian Chakvetadze in the last week's Cincinnati semifinals. But this week was a great week for Sania in her career. Sania has beaten three top players at the West Bank Classic. By this Sania jumped four positions up to 31st position in current WTA rankings. Before the week she was ranked 35th. With this Sania has equaled also her career's best ranking. Sania first clinched the 31st ranking in Octobar 2005.

Sania also had a wining side at Stanford. Sania along with Israel partner Sahar Peer clinched the doubles title at Stanford. The Indo-Israel pair defeated 6-4, 7-6(5) Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and Anna Chakvetadze of Russia to grab the doubles crown.

Sania also improved her doubles ranking to 26th position.
