Sania beats Safina to reach quarter-finals of Acura Classic
[Fri Aug , 07:13:50]

The Indian tennis star Sania Mirza is in her good form. Well, why not? because she is recovering from her knee injury and playing on her favorite surface (hard court).

Sania Mirza ousted the World No. 14 and eighth seed, Dinara Safina of Russia in their pre-quarter final match at the $1.3 million Acura Classic. It was an easy win for Sania. Sania dismissed Safina in two straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

Sania will next face the World No. 2 and former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova of Russia in the quarter finals. Sania and Sharapova had previously played against each other in the fourth round of US Open in 2005. At that time the match was won by Sharapova.

However, the doubles run at the Acura Classic was disappointing for Sania. Sania along with Israel partner Sahar Peer went down to Su-Wei Hseih of Taipei and Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia in the second round. But the pair had given good fight to their opponent. Sania-Sahar stretched the match up to third set 6-3, 3-6, 10-12.

But, Sania is doing well with her singles. Sania has won 10 of her last 12 matches. She is in good form and which is good for her before the year's next Grand Slam i.e. US Open.
