Mirza-Bhupati turned as runner-up at Aus. Open
[Mon Jan 28, 2008]The Indian duo, Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupati lose to Chinese-Serbian pair Sun Tiantian and Nenad Zimonjic in the mixed final of Australian Open. Tiantian-Zimonjic defeated Mirza-Bhupati in two sets 7-6 (7/4), 6-4.
In the first set Mirza-Bhupati gave a good fight by stretching the set for tie breaker, but didn't emerge as winners in it. However number of double faults and not so good second serves in the second set cost the Indians to lose the match.
The final was special for both Sania and Bhupati because it was first major for Sania, while it was the only grand slam not tasted by Bhupati in mixed doubles. Bhupati had previously won mixed doubles titles at French Open (1997, 2006), Wimbledon (2002, 2005), and US Open (1999, 2005).
On the other hand, by the end of year's first grand slam, Sania is set to become a No. 1 player in Asia.
