Sania may appear on postage stamps
[Mon Feb 18, 2008]Sania will remain immortal if she appears on the postage stamps. National heroes are always honored by the government by displaying there pictures on postage stamps. But it was the common practice to honor them like this only after their death. But this time, the government is planning to honor such personalities in their living years.
Such personalities includes sport celebrities like Sania Mirza, Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, film personalities like Shah Rukh Khan, Remo Fernandes and also others from various fields.
Shakeel Ahmad, who is the Minister of State for Communication and IT said, "We are considering a proposal to issue stamps on young achievers in various fields, who have made the nation proud. These personalities include Shah Rukh Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Sania Mirza, Harbhajan Singh and Remo Fernandes among others."
He later added that it had never happened to issue stamps on living persons, but he is debating on this issue with ministry and will soon come with some decision.
He said, "No amendment is required in the Postal Act. We just need to take a decision. I have written a note to (Communication and IT) Minister A Raja suggesting this."
