Sania exits from Pacific Life Open, Indian Wells
[Wed Mar 19, 2008]

Suffering with the wrist pain, Indian Tennis sensation Sania Mirza went down in her pre-quarter match against the defending champion Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia at Pacific Life Open WTA championships Indian Wells.

Sania defeated to Hantuchova in two straight sets. In the first set, Sania seemed helpless as she lost the set by 1-6. However, she gave a good fight in the second set despite suffering from wrist injury. In the second set, Sania was trailing by 0-5, but she came back strongly and leveled the score to 5-5 by winning five games successively. The set went to tiebreaker, but finally Hantuchova snatched the set by 7-6 (7/4). Hantuchova saved 11 out of 13 break points in the whole match.

After the match Sania said, "It's very, very painful. I don't know how I was playing out there as the ball was just flying out because I couldn't move my wrist."

However, Hantuchova who was expecting a tough match against Sania said, "I thought it was a great match. Sania is a great hitter. I was expecting really a tough one, and just being able to be in the quarters without losing a set feels really great."

Although, Sania has been out from singles, she has doubles run at Indian Wells. For doubles, she is paired up with American player Bethanie Mattek.
