Adidas to launch an apparel line globally- named after Sania Mirza

After the British soccer player David Beckham, the e10.3-billion Adidas Group is coming up with an apparel and accessories line named after Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza. It will be for the first time Adidas will globally launch a merchandise line after a tennis star. The company will launch a Sania Mirza collection under its namesake 'adidas' brand.

The Sania Mirza collection will include apparel, sporting gear, accessories, headgear and bags. The whole designs are designed at the global headquarters of Adidas in Germany and is targeted for the age group of 15 to 27.

Sania has already been chosen as brand ambassador for Adidas from December 2007. But the decision to start a merchandise line after her name was made after the internal market survey which shows Sania amongst the top three youth icons of India.

Gellner said, "A merchandise line with Sania will also help us create a stronger association with tennis."

The portfolio of the collection is due to out in September, while the sports gear will launch in January 2009 some time near to Australian Open. The Adidas-Sania Mirza collection will be available at Adidas stores worldwide as many countries were interested in the collection.
