Sania loses at 2nd round of DFS Classic
[Sat Jun 14, 2008]It was her first match after the long gap due to an injury. But Sania ended up it by losing. Mirza get bye in first round and in second round she went down to Marina Erakovic of New Zealand in two straight sets 3-6 0-6.
However, the other Indian, Sunitha (US-based Indian) who entered as a qualifier has continued her winning run at the tournament. Sunitha has reached the last-eight stage. To enter the quarterfinal she defeated the local player Naomi Cavaday in three sets 4-6 6-3 6-1.
It was a warm-up tournament before Wimbledon. It was a disappointing match for Sania, but she is all happy for coming back on court. For Wimbledon, she is paired up with American Bethanie Mattek for doubles. This fourth seeded Indo-American pair will take on to Natalie Grandin of South Africa and American Raquel Kops-Jones in the first round.
