Martinez Sanchez beat Sania at Wimbledon 2nd round

Sania Mirza had four match points to win at the second round of Wimbledon, but her Spaniard opponent Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez saved it very cleverly that she lost it in three sets 6-0, 4-6, 9-7. The match lasted for two hours and seven minutes. However, the decider set went for 68 minutes.

The first set was very disappointing for Sania as she didn't win a single game in the set. The Spaniard fully dominated the first set to win by 6-0. In the second set as well Sania lost her first game to give the Spaniard lead as 2-0. But later Sania came back with her characteristic forehand and hit the ball with power and depth. She broke Sanchez in the 6th and 10th game to win the second set.

In third set, Sania was doing well by making 4-2 lead, but the Spaniard broke her back in the 7th game. Sania displayed her determination, improved tactics and thinking game in second and third set. Sania had four match points to win the match but Sanchez saved it every time and dismissed Sania from Wimbledon singles. However in doubles, Sania along with American partner Bethanie Mattek reached second round by beating Elena Baltacha and Naomi Cavaday of Great Britain.

For mixed doubles, she is teamed up with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi.
