Sania-Bhupathi crashes out from mixed doubles at Wimbledon
[Sun Jun 29, 2008]Bhupati who had won six mixed doubles Grand Slam titles including two at Wimbledon goes down in the second round of ongoing Wimbledon tournament along with Sania Mirza. Bhupati-Mirza went down to the unseeded Russian pair of Maria Kirilenko and Igor Andreev in two straight sets 6-7 (4), 3-6.
However, all other Indians present in the mixed doubles challenge at Wimbledon bows out from the tournament from the second round itself. Leander Paes along with Australian partner Rennae Stubbs went down to Swede-Australian pair of Jonas Bjorkman and Alicia Molik. However, Rohan Bopanna along with Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus gets defeated from Swede-American pair of Simon Aspelin and Lisa Raymond.
Bhupati is already out from men's doubles in the first round itself. Now India's only hope at Wimbledon rests upon Sania in women's doubles and Paes in men's doubles. Both of them reached the 3rd round.
