Injured Sania to miss US Open
[Sun Aug 24, 2008]India's number one tennis player Sania Mirza will not play at the year's last and forth grand slam US Open due to wrist injury. Her consulting doctor has advised her to take a three week rest. Sania had also missed the year's whole clay court season including French Open dur to injury.
As a press statement said, "Sania Mirza has been advised complete rest for an initial period of three weeks by her consulting doctor after undergoing intensive tests."
Sania got injured in March and was underwent a surgery in April. After that she again faced the same injury problem which made her a first round exit from Olympics.
Sania herself is disappointed for not being able to play at US Open, as it is her favorite surface.
Sania said, "I've always done well at the US Open and it is very disappointing for me to miss the Grand Slam on my favorite surface due to my wrist injury."
The US Open is starting from Monday and there is no Indian participation to it in singles event. Both the players Sunitha Rao and Prakash Amritraj have failed to qualify for the event. However the other Indians, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes are participating in doubles event but with different partners.
