Sania Gave Good Fight To Venus At Family Circle
[Tue Apr 21, 2009]

Sania went down to Venus Williams in the second round of Family Circle. But she gave good fight to the seven-time Grand Slam champion. It was a three set match which lasted for two and a half hour.

Venus easily won the first set 6-1 breaking Sania Mirza. But in the second set the spirited Sania fought back and won the set by 6-3, who was initially trailing as 1-3. Sania won five games in a row and made the match one set equal. In the deciding set both of them exchanged a couple of serve breaks, but its Venus's wide experience that pulled away the match from Sania.

After the tournament Sania improved her singles ranking by seven points to 93rd place, while dropped by one rung in doubles to 60th place.

However the other Indians, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhpathi are placed at 5th and 9th place in doubles ranking.
