Sania's Climbs up on WTA Charts
[Thu Jun 18, 2009]With her concluded appearance at Aegon Classic in Birmingham, Sania climbs up on WTA charts by 20 places to 78th position. She also improves her doubles ranking by two rungs to 35th position.
Before the grass court season started Sania had to go through qualifying rounds and fight for the wildcard entry, but now her good performance on grass court earned her higher ranking. Sania reached semi-finals of doubles event at Aegon Classic along with Chinese Taipei partner Chia-Jung Chuang, but withdraw from singles opening round due to hip strain when she was trailing by 4-6, 2-3 to Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru.
However there is no change in ranking for other Indian tennis players. Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes holding the 9th and 5th position respectively in ATP doubles ranking. Also there is no change in top ten rankings for ATP and WTA.
