Sania Engages to Childhood Friend on July 10
[Wed Jul 15, 2009]The 22-year-old Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza engaged to her childhood friend Mohammed Sohrab on July 10 at Hotel Taj Krishna in Hyderabad. The 23-year-old Sohrab is a MBA student and son of a Hyderabad based businessman. The two families have friendly ties from several decades.
It was a private ceremony attended by 350 guests including family friends and personnel from sports, film and political field. However there was no entry for the media people, who were stopped at the gate only.
"This is a very private event. We request you to respect our privacy. It is the most important day in her life and Sania wants to enjoy every moment of it," said Imran Mirza earlier to the ceremony to the media.
Sania was wearing a traditional ghagra choli dress costing Rs 20 lakh which is gifted by her fiancé. However Sohrab was wearing a white Armani suit, which was obviously a gift from Sania.
Sania along with family members arrived at the venue on 6 pm. However the ring exchange ceremony done at 8.30 pm. The rings were designed in London. A special cake weighing 10 kg was made for the ceremony by Bakers Inn. The couple cut the cake after exchanging rings. According to reports, two chefs were hired from Iran to prepare the delicious food for the event. Also there was special sweet paan and local paan into the menu of the dinner.
However it was a much secured ceremony as 50 policemen and around 100 private security guards were protecting it.
Now you may be thinking that when that big day then is? Well it will take year-and-a-half time for it. Till then Sohrab plans to move to London and pursue his MBA studies, while Sania will keep practicing tennis professionally.
