Sania Reaches Semifinals of Lexington Challenger
[Sat Jul 25, 2009]Indian ace tennis player Sania Mirza reached to the semifinals at the ITF Lexington Challenger, when her opponent Lindsay Lee-Waters withdrew from the quarter final event due to leg injury.
Earlier Sania played two matches on Thursday because rain disturbed the tournament schedule. In the opening round she defeated Maria-Fernanda Alvarez-Teran of Bolivia by 6-4, 6-3. However late on Thursday for second round she played against Tetiana Luzhanska of Ukraine and defeated her in two straight sets 6-4, 7-6. However after playing two matches continuously on Thursday, Sania get a kind of relief of Friday when her opponent Lindsay Lee-Waters of America withdrew from the match. At the time Sania was leading with 5-2.
Sania seeded 2nd at the tournament will next take on to Meng Yuan of China. Meng Yuan is seeded below than Sania, but holds a 2-1 record against the Indian. Last time when they met for a hard court event in 2008, Yuan defeated Sania in two straight sets.
If Sania wins in the semi final round, she might take on the winner between top seed Julie Coin of France and Kai-Chen Chang of Chinese Taipei for finals.
