Sania Wins the ITF Lexington Challenger Title
[Mon Jul 27, 2009]To clinch the title Sania defeated top-seeded Julie Coin of France in two sets 7-5 6-4 on Sunday in Lexington. With the ITF Lexington Challenger title, Sania won $50, 000 of prize money.
The first set was close one for both the players. Sania broke Coin in the very first game of the set taking 2-0 lead. But Coin made a come back breaking Sania's serve and making the game 2 equal.
In the 8th game Coin broke Sania once again to make a 5-3 lead but the Indian won four successive points after that to win the first set by 7-5.
Coin started the second set aggressively taking a 2-1 lead, but one more time Mirza made a strong come back with a 5-3 lead. However to win the title Mirza broke the French player in the 10th game.
With the good start at the hard court season, Sania will next head to Bank of the West Classic, Stanford. With her appearance in final of the Lexington event, Sania makes it to the qualifying round of the Stanford event.
