Mirza troubling with wrist problem ahead of US Open
[Fri Aug 28, 2009]The year's upcoming Grand Slam- US Open is starting from Monday and to get ready for the tournament Sania Mirza is undergoing an acupuncture treatment on her right wrist.
Mirza went through a wrist surgery in April last year and since then she is troubling with the injury problem. For months Sania left out of the court due to the injury. However as the US Open is starting from Monday, she don't want to left any stone unturned to give her best performance.
Hard court is favourite surface of Sania. She reached fourth round of US Open in 2005 making a career's high ranking of 27 in singles. She made to the third round of the event in 2007. Her current singles ranking in world is 71.
Last week when she was practicing in US felt pain in the wrist, so flew back to home Hyderabad.
"I started feeling some pain on my right wrist in the semifinal in Vancouver (challenger)," said Sania.
"It got worse with every match. I thought it would be better to get some treatment before the U.S. Open," she added.
Talking about the pain Mirza said, "I'm much better now, but not absolutely pain-free."
"I've had a good run of matches and I'm striking the ball well. Hopefully, the wrist will hold up," added Sania.
