Sania progresses to second round of US Open
[Tue Sep , 06:49:24]It was a great day for Indians at US Open on Monday as both Sania Mirza and Somdev Devvarman made to the second round of the singles event. To get into the second round, Mirza defeated Olga Govortsova of Belarus in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Sania won the first set with ease, but in the second set the opponent fought back well to make the score one set equal. The third set was a roller-coaster for both the players saving their own services. Meanwhile, Sania took a 5-3 lead and so maintained to enter the second round of the tournament. After winning the match Sania said that the first match is always tough and winning it boasts the confidence. She is also happy for Devvarman, who is doing well.
However, Devvarman defeated Fredrico Gil of Portugal 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 to enter the second round of the event. First time he made to the main draw of a grand slam after failing in previous three attempts. For second round he will meet 23 seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of the German, who defeated Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-0, 6-4, 6-4 in first round.
