Sania-Pascual to pair up for Australian Open
[Fri Dec 11, 2009]As the year comes to end, world's tennis players are aiming for next year's first Grand Slam: Australian Open, which is starting in January. Indian tennis player Sania Mirza will be pairing up with Spainish player Virginia Ruano Pascual for the doubles event at the Grand Slam. Pascual is a former doubles number one and holds 11 Grand Slam titles to her credit, including 10 doubles.
Talking about her partnership with Pascual, Sania said, "I will be playing with Virginia Ruano Pascual in the Australian Open and if we do well, we'll continue to play together."
Sania had great season this year with doubles event partnering with Francesca Schiavone and Chia Jung Chuang. She won Australian Open 2009 mixed doubles title with partner Mahesh Bhupathi and she his happy for ending the year with ranking inside 100. For five successive years, she managed to end inside 100.
"For Indian tennis, it was an extremely good year," says Sania.
