Russia wins over Asia at Showdown of Champions
[Sun Dec 20, 2009]Russians win over Asian at the Showdown of Champions exhibition match, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In was a two day event and on the first day of the event, the Russian pair Elena Dementieva and Maria Kirilenko beat Asian pair Zheng Jie of China and Sania Mirza of India in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 10-8. Next day for the singles round, Kirilenko defeated Zheng Jie in three set stretch 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, which lasted for two hours and 10 minutes. However, Dementieva then took over to Mirza defeating her in two sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-0). Mirza's movements were restricted because of hamstring strain.
The Russians win the title with 3-0 lead over Asia. However, the tennis players gave good tennis experience to the local fans.
