Sania to start 2010 campaign with Auckland event
[Mon Jan , 22:58:53]Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza is all set to start the New Year with ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. It is a 32 women event in which eight players are from top 30 list.
For the first round, Sania will meet a world no. 75 Stefanie Voegele from Switzerland. Voegele-Mirza never played each other in past. If, Sania manages to surpass her first hurdle, she might meet good friend and 4th seed Francesca Schiavone from Italy. Sania was beaten by Schiavone in two straight sets 2-6, 1-6 in semi finals at Osaka in October last year.
The beginning of last year was good for Sania as she won her first ever Grand Slam title along with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi in Australian Open mixed doubles event. She also had made a final round appearance at Pattaya City. Though her performance not remained the same for the rest of the year, she managed to improve ranking by 42 places to 57th position by the end of year.
