Sania Mirza Breaks Off Engagement with Sohrab
[Fri Jan 29, 2010]Back to Hyderabad after a disappointing run at Melbourne, Sania made a decision to call off her engagement to long time friend Mohammad Sohrab Mirza. Sania has been friends with Mr. Mirza for years, "but found ourselves incompatible during our engagement period".
"We were friends for years but found ourselves incompatible. I wish Sohrab the very best in life," texted Sania to media persons in an SMS forwarded by her father Imran Mirza.
Sania got engaged in July last year and her decision to call off the six-month long engagement was surprise to every one, especially when last week she answered media saying that she will give up professional tennis after marriage.
"Well, it's just my personal choice. I just think that after marriage, priorities change in a lot of different ways and if I had to keep playing tennis and travel 35 weeks a year, why get married? I would like to live with my husband I think," said Sania last week from Melbourne Park.
However, Sania's father said that the break up would not affect friendship of two families and the decision had taken only after discussing the matter in two families.
Meanwhile, Adil Mirza, father of Sania's fiancé confirmed the news and said, "we agreed to it for the children's' happiness".
