Final blow for Sania's US titles Hopes
[Fri Sep 10, 2010]Sania's hopes of at least winning the doubles title were crushed after she was eliminated from the doubles tournament as well. Sania and her Russian partner Vera Dushevina went down in a hard-fought fight against 11th seeded Russian duo of Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makarova.
Though the pair lost in straight sets 6-7, 2-6, 6-7, the match was a close contest. Two of the three sets were pushed till seven games. In singles competition Sania had gone down timidly to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 2-6, 4-6, in straight sets. But in the doubles match, she showed some signs of getting back to her old form.
This US open has been one of the worst for Indians as almost everyone has been eliminated from all forms of competitions. The only hope left for India is the duo of Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi who will square off against the top-seeded pair of the Bryan Brothers in the US Open Men's Doubles final today.
